This Week in Panels: Week 150
August 5th, 2012 by Gavok | Tags: animal man, daredevil, deadpool, hawkeye, panels, swamp thingONE HUNDRED FIFTY! I need to get out more. This seems like as good a time as any to go over the mission statement:
This Week in Panels (ThWiP) is about taking every new comic my posse and I have read this week and sawing it down to its essence. If this was a commercial that was all, “This week in Age of Apocalypse!” this is the kind of thing you’d see. No final page images. No gigantic spoilers. No splash pages. Just the comics summed up in one panel. If there’s a series you like that isn’t covered on a regular basis, you’re more than welcome to email me. It’s on the sidebar.
This time I’m helped out by Was Taters, Gaijin Dan, Jody and Space Jawa. Many thanks to them and everyone else who made the past 150 weeks such a fun routine.

If David wasn’t so anti-Marvel/DC these days, I’d totally bug him about making that Defenders image the new 4thletter header.
There’s a reason why three of us had panels for Hawkeye. Read it. It’s good.
Funny conversation at work today. I’m in the office where we keep the lost and found stuff and the manager is asked on the phone about a cell left in the store. She asks me if I can find it in the pile. I find a few cell phones, but not the one asked for. I also notice a Nintendo 3DS and jokingly ask if I can keep it.
Wouldn’t you know it, that thing’s been there for over half a year so I’m the owner of a Nintendo 3DS with Mario 3D in there. Right after work I walked to the Gamestop to get myself a charger and Mario Kart. Anyone out there have any suggestions for games worth getting?
Something funny about that Batwing panel…
My shop was out of Hawkeye, but I’ve got it on reorder. There aren’t many books I’d get for the art alone, but I’d consider it for Aja, even if the story was lackluster. Glad to hear it’s not.
by clay August 6th, 2012 at 00:54 --reply@clay: There’s a panel within the panel, so I blotted it out.
by Gavok August 6th, 2012 at 02:04 --replyWait Black panther and storm got a divorce? Clearly Captain America reprise his role as Black panther to break the two apart so he can have the avengers not questioning his order or trying to stay out of it. Also hope this ends up being a stupid what if or skrull invasion.
by SomerandomGuy August 6th, 2012 at 02:16 --replyAvengers Academy: Somehow that looks like good story meat and not too bad art.
Avengers vs X-Men: So “they” finally got Storm and T’Challa apart, huh? No more worrying about somebody else “getting the Storm drawers,” as Hudlin used to (aptly) put it. Too bad. No, seriously.
Earth 2: I want to like this less. Garrick’s costume helps, but damn-near everything else I’ve seen in the most recent issue or two makes me want to scoop it up. “Luckily,” I have NOT changed my mind about $4 fuggin’ bucks being too much to pay for each rassum frassum issue.
by West August 6th, 2012 at 05:53 --replyFor what it’s worth,…
If it were possible to put the “Notify” options and *above* the “submit” button, that’d sure be nifty. Thanks.
by West August 6th, 2012 at 05:54 --replyFor the 3DS, I recommend getting a third-party battery, the one that the system comes with sucks. As for games, I really recommend Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox 64 3D, and Super Street Fighter 4.
by smashpro1 August 6th, 2012 at 11:23 --replyHawkeye was the best book to come out last week – I can’t wait to see what they do next. Although the panel I would have chosen was the one where somebody asks Clint if he’s Iron Fist, since Aja’s renditions of Clint and Danny Rand do resemble each other more than a bit.
(This is not a bad thing, just sayin’ is all.)
by Prodigal August 6th, 2012 at 17:43 --replyon the 3DS note, get Kid Icarus. it’s just about the best nintendo game in years.
Also Street Fighter IV and Dead or Alive Dimensions, both of which work far better than a handheld beat ’em up ever should.
Man, I hope readers aren’t getting attached to Barrage. It looks like it’ll be cancelled in Japan before long, as it’s been bottoming out the rankings for a while. I also hope readers are patient with Takamagahara because those first two weeks are rrrrrrrrough.
by Maxy B August 7th, 2012 at 08:25 --replywas anybody feeling the comparison made in Daredevil? Because I’ve been loving the book but I don’t really see how the two dudes are really that similar. I mean I guess they both intelligent guys who make a lot of dumb decisions? Although that’s most of the Avengers, really…
@Maxy B: You mean “both of which work far better than a handheld beat ‘em up ever should after the death of the Neo-Geo Pocket Color“, right?
anyway, rather than determine that 3DS games to buy, it would probably be a much wiser investment to get a membership with something like GameFly and rent like mad. Most of the stuff people would consider really appealing is still on it’s way.
by C August 7th, 2012 at 09:23 --replyHawkeye and avx 9 were really good.
Avx really turned a quality corner around issue 6. I love jrjr’s work, but I had just marathoned kickass 1 & 2 and I think I was burned out.
As for Hawkeye, Aja is amazing. Art alone is worth the $3 tag. Story was good too. Find secret avengers 18 in a back issue bin for more great Aja.
by Jody August 8th, 2012 at 10:12 --replyI have to say, no matter how many of these books I’m reading, I never miss this feature, and it has an impact on what I do and don’t read. Thanks for 150 of ’em.
by Don Delgado August 9th, 2012 at 11:45 --reply@Don Delgado: Thank you for constantly checking it out. Your support is why I’ve never even thought about stopping it.
by Gavok August 9th, 2012 at 15:33 --replyI want to pick up Hawkeye, but I’m worried that once that ‘Marvel Now’ thing they’re pulling hits, that it might get lost to cancellation. Is there any news about that?
by Sparky August 10th, 2012 at 19:33 --replywait a sec, did the 3DS not have any personal info on it at all?
by C August 13th, 2012 at 09:17 --reply@C: Just a couple first names. Nothing specific.
