This Week in Panels: Week 83
April 24th, 2011 by Gavok | Tags: darkwing duck, deadpool, green lantern, hulk, panels, wolverineHey, I’m back from Vegas! Had a fantastic time and made about $400 during the trip. Also got to check out some good Lewis Black stand-up. Now I’m back, enjoying the fruits of Mortal Kombat and my Chikara King of Trios DVDs. I’ve watched the first night of King of Trios which features Team Minnesota in the main event, made up of Arik Cannon, Darrin Corbin and the 1-2-3 Kid. Yes, you read that correctly. Not Syxx. Not X-Pac. The 1-2-3 Kid. Although he shaved for the show, he apologized to the crowd because there was no way he was going to bring back the mullet.
Said match involved them facing a team which had Jinsei Shinzaki (otherwise known as Hakushi in the mid-90’s WWF), leading to a big “1995!” chant from the crowd. God, I love Chikara.
On topic, great comic week. All my non-Venom favorites showed up. Avengers Academy, Darkwing Duck, Thunderbolts and Uncanny X-Force. Lot of stuff this time around, as I’m assisted by David Brothers, Was Taters and Space Jawa. Let’s get cracking.

So in that Power Girl panel, would you consider her chest to be a revolting development? C’mon, Winick! These jokes write themselves!
Since I’m on a Chikara kick at the moment, here’s what happens when you have a six-man tag with nothing but bad guys.
IS it me, or are indigo-colored fatigues a bad idea? And John added a headband. Yeesh.
by Jason April 24th, 2011 at 23:20 --replySo glad Frank Miller is back in the saddle. That’s part of his Xerxes min-series, right?
That panel from Green Lantern Corps is exactly why I don’t read books like that anymore – at least they lampshaded how absurd they all look.
Oh God, Zatanna’s breasts are terrifying in rock-form!
Satana’s breasts, on the other hand…
I really like Noto’s work on Wolverine & Jubilee. It’s nice to see him doing interiors instead of just covers. I wish some of the other artists who mostly do covers would do interiors every so often, especially Adam Hughes and Dave Johnson. Alex Ross…not so much.
by Rosselli April 24th, 2011 at 23:59 --replyWow, that #65 panel is pretty powerful mythically. I suppose that’s what that book is about right now.
by P.B. April 26th, 2011 at 17:16 --replyIndigo Lantern John is hilariously out of place looking. It’s just… maybe Yellow would work? Eesh.
They should give him a few character-building moments instead of relying on “Sniper”. I’m not even certain at what point he was supposed to have been a sniper. Before or after being an architect?
by Durandal4532 April 27th, 2011 at 09:42 --replyI finished the first two nights of King of Trios ’11, and man did night 2 have some great matches. Can’t wait to watch night 3 tomorrow to see what happens.
