This Week in Panels: WEEK 200!
July 22nd, 2013 by Gavok | Tags: Batman, deadpool, injustice, mega man, panels, sonic the hedgehog, wonder womanYikes! I never thought this would ever last this long. Started as an exercise in keeping me on some kind of deadline, This Week in Panels has been going strong for the last two hundo weeks. The idea is simple. Take the new comics me and my calvary have read over the week and chop them down until there’s one panel that best sums up the issue. It’s fun and people seem to like it, which is why it’s lasted so long.
My crew this time includes Gaijin Dan, Space Jawa, Matlock and Jody. Buddy Dickeye tried to toss me a panel for Avengers, but it kind of doesn’t work.
Yeah, Space Knights (sans Rom, the only one anyone cares about). Those are cool and all, but they have barely anything to do with anything. They’re in there for one panel and are never referenced. Still, I posted it here anyway because I didn’t want my first panel for ThWiP 200 to be whatever the hell that nightmare is in Animal Man.
No, seriously. What the fuck is this thing?!

Shut up. It’s my anniversary and I’ll post multiple Deadpool panels if I want to.
Thanks to all you guys for reading these. Thanks to all my contributors and the many, many people who put these comics together. Special thanks to David Brothers for forever humoring me with these pointless articles.
Join me tomorrow in a day or so for This Character in Panels. In the meantime, everybody party!
And a huge Thank You to you for putting this all together and making it work for so long, Gavok!

by Drakyn July 22nd, 2013 at 08:23 --replyIncidentally, are we meant to think that Damian’s wrong there? Because he’s not wrong there. For every one attempt at making Batman a Good Guy who dresses Scurry there’s eighteen sincere “HRMMM BROODING” things. Jesus christ you’re not the only kid with dead parents, you’re not even the only kid whose parents died in front of them. There’s a lot of orphans on this planet Bruce, stop angsting and soapboxing off the fact that you had to suffer with the colossal burden of growing up parentless in a huge fuckoff mansion with a massive inheritance and The World’s Most Interesting Man as a foster figure.
@Drakyn: The Injustice comic is kind of playing it like Civil War where people argue which side is right, but while on one hand, it’s played better, on the other hand, we know where it’s leading because of the game. Which is actually rather funny when you consider how people jumped on the premise when this thing started. Everyone acted like the whole Metropolis/Lois/Joker incident automatically made Superman a cartoon Hitler when it’s been 27 issues and he’s still yet to really cross many lines. It’s a gradual development, but Batman knows where it leads.
Unfortunately for Batman, he’s bad at getting allies and Damian practically spells it out right there. There’s an earlier issue where Huntress gets on Batman’s case and calls him Bruce in the heat of the moment. He grimaces at her and she realizes that he had this cabal of anti-Superman heroes helping him and most of them didn’t even know his name. In disgust, she starts to storm out.
So the basic idea is that Superman is the most trustworthy and has the best intentions, but he’s ultimately in the wrong while Batman knows what he’s talking about, but nobody cares because he’s a “my way or the highway” asshole who keeps to himself.
by Gavok July 22nd, 2013 at 11:19 --replyPulsar, Ikon, Firefall, Starshine, Terminator. Clockwise from top left. Yes, I didn’t have to check my old ROM collection to remember that. I’ve got it bad.
Still no damn Rom though. Why must Marvel tease me?
by A.o.D. July 22nd, 2013 at 17:07 --reply@Gavok: Thanks for the summary.
by Drakyn July 22nd, 2013 at 20:20 --replyNow you’ve got me wondering if there’s any Elseworlds where Batman over-reacted to someone else killing a guy and slid off the slippery slope to becoming a control-freak world dictator who refuses to kill but is A-OK with stuffing everyone in gulags. And whenever anyone brings up whether or not it’s an asshole thing to do he just makes that grimchin face at them and says “MY PARENTS never got the chance to tell me not to be an asshole.”
Deadpool looks appropriately dire, appropriate since most of Marvel’s output right now is utter dreck.
“The White Man”? Really?
by REMEMBER ME July 23rd, 2013 at 13:32 --reply@REMEMBER ME: Would it be better if his name was in all caps?
