Ultimatum Edit Week 2: Day Seven
January 2nd, 2009 by Gavok | Tags: jeph loeb, magneto, Marvel comics, ultimate edit, ultimatum, x-men, xavierYet another installment of Ultimatum Edit Week comes to a close today. Last time, we saw the infamous Blob sequence. That’s really all that needs to be said.
Let’s get this over with.
And that’s that. I’m wondering if that last page is an homage to the Xorn reveal from Morrison’s New X-Men.
ManiacClown and I will be around for the next round, I’m sure. In the meantime, please check out our Rifftrax of Frosty Returns. Sure, the holidays are over, but the thing is only 75 cents and the quality is a lot better than our previous project.
As for me, it’s time to get back to writing those wacky Venom articles. See you later, folks. Thanks for reading.
Aw, I thought you guys were going to make a Godwin’s Law crack!
…Seriously, the writing on the actual pages is soooo bad. And it looks like this artist has caught Joe Mad’s case of scrunchface.
It’s really sad, because Ultimates was really a good concept well done at the beginning. And now I see that the only people defending it any more on forums are the ones who say it was never intended to be anything but a gross-out crack-fest, so it’s perfectly fine that it doesn’t even bother to keep internal consistency regarding characterizations or plot developments, and that everyone in it is depicted as depraved and/or stupider than many bags of hammers.
Which, you know, I don’t *remember* the PTB at Marvel announcing the initial series or promoting it as “The printed-page equivalent of those Scary Movie parodies…
I apologize to anyone who might have picked the Ultimates books up because I rec’d them in bygone years.
by bellatrys January 2nd, 2009 at 06:27 --replyAnd here’s me thinking that I could make a revamped Mister Fish into Villain Of The Year, so long as I changed his fish species. Ah, well. There’s always Eye Scream…
by Stig January 2nd, 2009 at 10:38 --replyI loved the pool of blood line.
by Dane January 4th, 2009 at 14:57 --replyI like how really none of this requires Magneto to be the Master of Magnetism. Tidal waves, freezing countries and snapping necks? I think Loeb wanted to write an Evil Doctor arch.
Also, does this really, really have to count? I just read Johnny Storm in the most recent Ult. Spider-man and he was excellent! Such a waste that that character is gone.
by Adam January 6th, 2009 at 17:13 --replyOr arc, arc is probably what I meant.
by Adam January 6th, 2009 at 17:15 --replyIn the last panel, is Xavier wearing a large earing coming out of the top of his ear?
