Fourcast! Updated!

January 4th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

The RSS feed and iTunes should be working now. I think I broke something on the backend, though, so pardon this post this consists entirely of the theme song while I check things out. If my guess is right, this won’t publish to iTunes, so this is a website exclusive. Download it, stream it, do whatever while I try to fix this thing.

Fourcast! 27: Fresh for 2010

January 4th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

380210_3

We took some time off (okay), and now we’re back y’all (that’s right)! You in the line at the club, we in the back, dawg!

-Chris Eckert would like you to know that the Fourcast! is untrustworthy.
-Theme music: 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental
-It’s a year in review show! Where we fight to not talk about years other than 2009!
-(I cut a ten minute digression where we ended up as far back as the ’80s, for example.)
-We talk about resolutions (for other people), hopes and (pipe) dreams, what we liked in ’09, and what we’re looking forward to in ’10. The answers might (won’t) surprise you!
-This one ran just under an hour. We’ll be back to our normal running time next week.

Also, since we’re at the top of a new year… any requests for topics? Leave them in the comments and we’ll see what we can do.

Fourcast! 26: Welcome to the Deadpool, Street Angel!

November 23rd, 2009 Posted by david brothers

-Wait, who is that? Who let Gavin on the podcast? Did he hack my computer?
-Theme music: 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental
-I Made Esther Read: Street Angel, by Jim Rugg and Brian Maruca. Check out this clip.
-Deadpool. What’s the deal with that guy? And Agent X, remember that?

And of course, there’s bad news– the Fourcast! is on hiatus for at least a month and change. Unavoidable technical issues, time, unrelated stress, blah blah blah– we’ll be back at some point in January, most likely. Call it a holiday, and call it a comeback in a month or so.

Fourcast! 25: Blast from the Pastcast

November 16th, 2009 Posted by david brothers

There may be a few audio hitches in this one. I tried to even it out, but some of them were unavoidable. Recording problems blah blah blah, it should be fixed for the show after the next.

-Intro drop: Jamaal Thomas of Funnybook Babylon. And he does like comics. He liked Luke Cage Noir, the recently ended Marvel miniseries set in Harlem.
-Theme music: 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental
-The Shield: I was surprised I liked it, and try to get across a little of why I did.
-Batman & Doc Savage Special #1: I was surprised I didn’t like it, Esther was surprised that Batman grabbed a boob, and we gab about it for a bit.
-CEOutro

Some visual aides, words by Azzarello, art by Noto:

Fourcast! 23: Sex and Violence

November 2nd, 2009 Posted by david brothers

Guess who’s back, back again… Tell your friends, will you? The rundown:

-A special introduction, courtesy of Joe, a Funnybook Babylonian. Thanks fella!
– 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental
-I explain the new and improved Bruce Banner to Esther. A little smarter, a little meaner, a little more interesting.
-We talk some about James Bond: Polestar, a Titan Books release. These dusty old newspaper comics have better than your recommended daily alliance of boobies and violence, usually in equal parts.
-The next segment was intended to be a discussion of what makes a good comic for grown-ups, but it segued and mutated and warped into just a discussion of what we like and don’t like about adult books. It’s a little rambly, but there are some gems in there, and hopefully it’ll provoke some conversation.

If you’re curious to see some crudely-drawn cartoon breasts, check out these two non-consecutive pages from the book:

Fourcast! 22: Six Fun Twists and Turns

October 26th, 2009 Posted by david brothers

This is a different kind of Continuity Off, as Esther and I break down six plot twists and turns that we’ve enjoyed over the years. 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental is our theme music, of course, and here’s a few of the stories we’re going to ruin for you:

-The Last Days of Ted Kord
-The last great X-Men tale (New X-Men, if you disagree you are objectively wrong)
-The connection between Hitman and Punisher
-Batman buying girlfriends
-The Death of Jack Murdock
-Superboy Prime punches.

Listen carefully.

Fourcast! Updates

October 20th, 2009 Posted by david brothers

I just realized I haven’t been doing the Station Identification on the podcasts recently, which is probably pretty dumb. So! Here is some important info:

The Fourcast! is:
-Free, forever and ever, amen
-Published once a week on Monday mornings at 6am, barring unavoidable technical difficulties
-A fun show with a conversational tone, mainly focused on superhero books, with occasional dips into other genres
-About half an hour long, with hour-long shows reserved for special occasions like The Girlcast
-Awesome

Tell your friends.

Fourcast! 21: Batman Year 100: PulpHope

October 19th, 2009 Posted by david brothers

We’ve got a You Made Me Read This that’s five months in the making! Esther’s read Batman Year 100, and we have a nice discussion about it for around half an hour. We go over what makes Batman Batman, belly button physics, dentures and lisps, and plenty of other bits. After we discuss our favorite incarnations or styles of Batman, 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental plays and we go on our way.

The Batman “Dick, was I a good father?” scene is this one:

page14

I don’t know if it was like that in the original Infinite Crisis #4, but Chris Eckert’s Edited Crisis #4 > Infinite Crisis #4. I love it like a fat kid loves cake or a rap kid loves breaks.

Fourcast! 20: Wednesday Comics No More!

October 12th, 2009 Posted by david brothers

Short and sweet:
-6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental
-A free-wheeling discussion of the end and overall effect of Wednesday Comics
-A brief bit on relating to characters
-Outro music.

Easy-peasy. Give it a listen.

Fourcast! 19: Adam Warlock vs Alfred Beagle

October 5th, 2009 Posted by david brothers

6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental provides a prelude to our latest Continuity Off: Adam Warlock vs Alfred. As in, Batman’s Alfred versus the Golden Messiah.

I break Warlock down from Kirby/Lee to Jim Starlin to the current incarnation, a feat which takes forever, and Esther explains how Alfred a) is 90 years old and b) was in love with a woman who could be his great grand-daughter and was also just a little older than Tim Drake. Whooo!
