Fourcast! 23: Sex and Violence

November 2nd, 2009 by | Tags: , , ,

Guess who’s back, back again… Tell your friends, will you? The rundown:

-A special introduction, courtesy of Joe, a Funnybook Babylonian. Thanks fella!
– 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental
-I explain the new and improved Bruce Banner to Esther. A little smarter, a little meaner, a little more interesting.
-We talk some about James Bond: Polestar, a Titan Books release. These dusty old newspaper comics have better than your recommended daily alliance of boobies and violence, usually in equal parts.
-The next segment was intended to be a discussion of what makes a good comic for grown-ups, but it segued and mutated and warped into just a discussion of what we like and don’t like about adult books. It’s a little rambly, but there are some gems in there, and hopefully it’ll provoke some conversation.

If you’re curious to see some crudely-drawn cartoon breasts, check out these two non-consecutive pages from the book:

  1. Regarding superheroes and killing, I think the moral stand works a lot better with someone like Ultimate Spider-man than the New Avengers. You can have the audience know that USM is principled, but also naive. It just doesn’t work with a team where half (Cap, Wolverine, Mockingbird, Ms. Marvel) killed people before joining, and everyone on the team has to have killed a few dozen Skrulls during Secret Invasion.

  4. This was the first Fourcast I’ve listened to, and you’ve certainly gained a fan out of me, but I have a bit of a request. Would it be possible to tweak with the volume of future episodes so your voices are louder? During my listen, I had my iPod Touch at full blast and standing near traffic and I couldn’t hear you guys over the idling cars.

  5. @gigs: Yeah, I’m totally working on that. It should get louder and more comfortable over the next few episodes, I hope. Thanks for the feedback.
