Fourcast! 33: Last Week in Comics

February 15th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

-6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental for the theme music
-Oh snap, comics reviews!
Batman & Robin #8? Good stuff! Cameron Stewart drew a great fight scene, Grant Morrison writes a fun Batwoman (“I have to die.”) and the British stuff is pretty fun.
-Esther wants Damian to disappear, though. That sucks.
Amazing Spider-Man #620? Pretty good, with a great Mysterio bit and amazing art from Marcos Martin and Javier Pulido.
Secret Six #18? Blackest Night crossover, Amanda Waller runs things, and Deadshot shoots dudes.
-Fact: I cannot say “Deadshot” without saying “Deathstroke” first.
-Fact: Deadshot’s miniseries from a while back ruled.
Jormungand volume 2 from Viz features a child soldier who goes into two separate suicidal rages in this volume, a wacky arms dealer, and the hijinx they get into. David likes it because he probably has a gun fetish. Good stuff!
-See you, space cowboy!

-She made me read Devin Grayson’s run on Gotham Knights.
-Then we fought to the death!

Fourcast! 31: Who’s Who in the 4thletter! Universe

February 1st, 2010 Posted by david brothers

-Gavin provides a quickie bio for who he is and how he came to be. But… who ate his Rice Krispie Treats?
-6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental for the theme music
-Oh. It was Esther. This probably means war.
-Do you know what sounds interesting? Listening to David and Esther page through a full run of Who’s Who in the DC Universe!
-Thrill! to the sound of pages being turned!
-Listen! to the audible disbelief and scorn!
-Wonder! about the background music that wafted over from my neighbor’s apartment while we were recording!
-Discover! our misplaced disdain for the past as we make fun of Yellow Peri for being a crappy version of “yellow peril!” Turns out she’s based on peris, fallen angels from Persian mythology. Sorry, dudes from the past who created Yellow Peri! She’s still basically a crappy version of I Dream of Jeanie!
-Ponder! why we make sitcom/TGIF jokes on every show.
-Accept! our apologies for accidentally biting MGK’s gimmick!
-Click! these links for some visual aides:

-Peace! We’ll be more coherent next week.

Fourcast! 29: Talking About Comics Internet

January 18th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

Ooh, welcome to Name Drop City, where the comics are good and the girls are pretty!

-Noted comics critic David Uzumeri of Funky Babylon gives us an intro
-Theme music: 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental
-What’re we talking about? Comics internet! Who we read, what we like, what we dislike, and so on.
Twitter is David‘s favorite comics site, and at recording time, David Uzumeri‘s open letter to DC Comics was the big thing.
-Peter David and Gail Simone: sometimes they get into heated arguments with people on the internet. Here is Jim Halpert from The Office doing an impression of what Esther does when things like that happen:

Fourcast! 28: Squadron Supreme Power

January 11th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

John provides a brief intro
-Theme music: 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental
-Gavin gave Esther Mark Gruenwald’s Squadron Supreme for Christmas. She gave him a scathing review in exchange.
-Psyche.
-We talk about Squadron Supreme, its place in history, and a few things Esther liked about it.
-David didn’t like Supreme Power much at all, seems like.
-CEOutro

Fourcast! 27: Fresh for 2010

January 4th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

380210_3

We took some time off (okay), and now we’re back y’all (that’s right)! You in the line at the club, we in the back, dawg!

-Chris Eckert would like you to know that the Fourcast! is untrustworthy.
-Theme music: 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental
-It’s a year in review show! Where we fight to not talk about years other than 2009!
-(I cut a ten minute digression where we ended up as far back as the ’80s, for example.)
-We talk about resolutions (for other people), hopes and (pipe) dreams, what we liked in ’09, and what we’re looking forward to in ’10. The answers might (won’t) surprise you!
-This one ran just under an hour. We’ll be back to our normal running time next week.

Also, since we’re at the top of a new year… any requests for topics? Leave them in the comments and we’ll see what we can do.

Fourcast! 26: Welcome to the Deadpool, Street Angel!

November 23rd, 2009 Posted by david brothers

-Wait, who is that? Who let Gavin on the podcast? Did he hack my computer?
-Theme music: 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental
-I Made Esther Read: Street Angel, by Jim Rugg and Brian Maruca. Check out this clip.
-Deadpool. What’s the deal with that guy? And Agent X, remember that?

And of course, there’s bad news– the Fourcast! is on hiatus for at least a month and change. Unavoidable technical issues, time, unrelated stress, blah blah blah– we’ll be back at some point in January, most likely. Call it a holiday, and call it a comeback in a month or so.

Fourcast! 25: Blast from the Pastcast

November 16th, 2009 Posted by david brothers

There may be a few audio hitches in this one. I tried to even it out, but some of them were unavoidable. Recording problems blah blah blah, it should be fixed for the show after the next.

-Intro drop: Jamaal Thomas of Funnybook Babylon. And he does like comics. He liked Luke Cage Noir, the recently ended Marvel miniseries set in Harlem.
-Theme music: 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental
-The Shield: I was surprised I liked it, and try to get across a little of why I did.
-Batman & Doc Savage Special #1: I was surprised I didn’t like it, Esther was surprised that Batman grabbed a boob, and we gab about it for a bit.
-CEOutro

Fourcast! 24: Nightcrawler vs Batgirl

November 9th, 2009 Posted by david brothers

Reader ACK let me know that Cassandra Cain turns ten this year, and I realized that she’s a character I enjoy, and she’s a Batgirl, so I know Esther likes her, too. Luckily, we have a podcast where we can talk about her for hours. Luckily for you I edited that down to about 48 minutes.

-Pedro Tejeda, a true man among men and Funnybook Babylonian, clues us in on a few things you’ll never hear on the Fourcast!, at least until I trick him into being a special guest.
– 6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental opens up the show…
-I kick off the Continuity Off with Kurt Wagner, Nightcrawler, and run down his hits and misses. I left out the swashbuckling stuff by accident, but no one’s perfect.
-Esther talks about Batgirl some, which makes me talk about Batgirl some, and then we are down the rabbit hole, ladies and gents.

Share your favorite Cassandra Cain moments down in the comments, good or bad, and we’ll catch you next week!
