Afrodisiac Trailer
October 14th, 2009 by david brothers | Tags: adhouse, afrodisiac, brian maruca, Colored Commentary, jim ruggWoke up this morning and saw that Robot 6 had the good stuff: a brand new trailer for Jim Rugg and Brian Maruca’s Afrodisiac, published by AdHouse Books.
I want this book. C’mon, y’all, this book is right up my alley. I’m the guy that talks about black people and comics all the time and this is a comic about a black guy. 2 + 2 = Real Talk!
That looks awesome. I have to admit that I haven’t heard of the creators, to my clear detriment. What’s the 411, hun? I got it goin’ on.

It’s about a young homeless girl who fights ninjas, crime, Irish astronauts, etc. It seems like it’d be one of those books that’s just “PIrates cowboys ninjas zombies LOL!!!!!!” but it really isn’t. Deft art, solid writing, and a couple of good swerves (in terms of story and approach) make it awesome. Afrodisiac first showed up there, too.
It’s crazy out of print, but if you see it somewhere, grab it asap. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

by Miles October 14th, 2009 at 22:30 --replyOh, just for those who can’t wait, Street Angel should be back in print later this year.

Looks pretty cool. It’s like Shaft, but heavily influenced by comics and less serious.
Your description (‘comics plus black people!’) kinda makes me wonder what happened to Genius, from Top Cow, I’m starting to wonder if that’s ever coming out.
