July 5th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

-All villains, all the time in this extra-sized Fourcast!
-Esther liked last week’s Green Lantern 55 and Action Comics 890.
-Yes, even the sad/silly cat story.
-We smoothly segue into talking about Batman’s villains.
David is in love with the idea of apophenia.
-We discuss the workman-like qualities of Flash’s Rogues.
-David makes a case for Spider-Man’s villains.
-Esther ain’t having none of it.
-Esther was recovering from being sick.
-David was in the process of getting sick.
-David will be smarter next time or he’ll be fired.
-6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental for the theme music.

Fourcast! 51: Spelunking

June 28th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

-You Made Me Read This! returns!
-A cave-centric comic book podcast! Yes!
-We have some very kind words for Jeff Parker and Steve Lieber’s Underground
Here is the Steve Lieber photo David incorrectly described.
-This is also a You Made Me Watch This!
-Esther made David watch a movie about women and caves. It was called The Descent.
The Descent was directed by Neil Marshall.

Fourcast! 50: Anecdotal Evidence

June 21st, 2010 Posted by david brothers

-Hey, remember when I jokingly suggested that we’d one day do an entire podcast composed of nothing but anecdotes?
-Ha ha, joke’s on you!
-For our 50th show, we decided to do a big fat show where we talk about things we like.
-It’s so that you get to know us better, or something. I swear I had a reason when I thought of doing this.
-This is a fun one, though, so listen to it.
-David: The Book of Eli, Inglourious Basterds
-Esther: Creature features & comedies
-David: Crime shows–no wait, TV on DVD.
The Shield, Homicide: Life on the Street, Dragon Ball Z
Puss-n-Boots, Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves
-Yes, I only know three fairy tales apparently. But Esther doesn’t know Dragon Ball Z!
Journey to the West
-Esther: TV shows–comedies, getting suckered into watching Oz/good dramas, making up memories
-David: Libraries and Fred Saberhagen
-Esther: Libraries and orphans
-The series I couldn’t think of was Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern. Thanks to snackmar for pointing it out from my vague, one-word description!
-6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental for the theme music.
-See you, space cowboy!

Fourcast! 49: Greekin’ Out

June 14th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

You Made Me Read This returns from limbo!
-David read Christopher Moller’s JLA: League of One!
-Wonder Woman hears a prophecy and betrays her friends so that she can fight and die against a dragon! Batman menaces a wood nymph! Superman is a baby about things!
-Esther read David McGuire’s Gastrophobia!
-It’s the best tale of single motherhood since single motherhood was invented!
-We talk about other mythical comic stuff, including a brief mention of Superman as a centaur!
-6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental for the theme music.
-See you, space cowboy!

Fourcast! 48: Talkin’ ‘Bout Comics

June 7th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

-Let’s talk about last week’s comics!
Batman Confidential 45. Words by Kevin Vanhook, pencils by Tom Mandrake, preview
Red Robin 13. Words by Fabian Nicieza, pencils by Marcus To, preview
Heralds 1. Words by Kathryn Immonen, pencils by Tonci Zonjic, preview
Dong Xoai, by Joe Kubert, Amazon link
-Esther doesn’t like to see Batman in anything but crime-based circumstances in Gotham, but she sure did enjoy his battle against zombies and werewolves in New Orleans in Batman Confidential.
-She also got a pleasant surprise out of Red Robin, one of the rare Bat-books where everyone gets along (mostly) and three bros just kinda hang out, broing it up on the rooftops of the city.
-David likes Heralds because Kathryn Immon rules and Tonci Zonjic rules and Franke Raye rules. It’s a no-brainer.
-He also digs Joe Kubert’s Dong Xoai, in large part because he doesn’t know exactly how to talk about it.
-6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental for the theme music.
-See you, space cowboy!

Fourcast! 45: Teen Titans vs New Warriors

May 17th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

-Continuity Off!
-Esther on Teen Titans!
-David on New Warriors!
-Of course, New Warriors: Reality Check is out of print. It was a good story if you can find it.
-True story: next week is the Fourcast’s one year anniversary and you won’t believe what we have planned.
-I mean, you won’t believe that we don’t have anything planned.
-(Plan something for us please.)
-6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental for the theme music.
-See you, space cowboy!

Fourcast! 41: Fishtalker Showdown

April 19th, 2010 Posted by david brothers

-Continuity Off! Namor vs Aquaman!
-I take the lead, again, with Namor.
-Esther has Aquaman, husband to the most popular DC Comics character ever.
-Yes, I do confuse Master Man with Maxi-man. Hush.
-It was raining while we were recording, so when I’m talking about how it sounds like Namor’s invading outside… pretend like you can hear the rain.
-I don’t regret my “haters gon’ hate” joke. Haters gonna hate on Atlanteans, that’s why they’re always getting invaded and destroyed.
-Also Atlanteans are SUPER racist, Marvel and DC both.
-This is the fantastic Roger Jr ending from Tekken 5:

-Yep, Esther made a “shave and a haircut, two bits!” joke.
-Here is the final word on Namor vs Aquaman. Aquaman has never been in as great of a story as Michael Kupperman’s “Fed Up With Man” from Strange Tales. Beat this, fishface:

-A hook hand, a popular wife… ridiculous.
-We talked for a long dang time about some fish.
-6th Sense’s 4a.m. Instrumental for the theme music.
-See you, space cowboy!
